It is one of the ridiculous recurrent themes in the comic that most every thing is a reference to Greek mythology in town. The street names, parks, various places that the characters end up at even Cat’s cats. No, they’re not magic or anything, she’s had them from before the comic started so she didn’t acquire cats, magically or otherwise, and decide to name them based on what she was going through. Somewhere in the early days of the comic this idea that there was a town someplace in the US that just had everything obsessively modeled around Greek myths developed. There’s no canonical explanation for it, it’s just purely a coincidence that the comic happens in a town called New Athens.
Uh, am I crazy, or is there a page missing? It looks like Ethan is reacting to something she said, but the panel immediately before this was him being skeptical.
