This is what’s leading me to believe that worship somehow causes the godlings to develop. It’s been remarked upon early in the comic that none of them know how long this situation is going to take, as it doesn’t really follow anything typical in ordinary pregnancy development.
Second, I think Cat mentioned it once that questions should be raised about what would happen once they were born. As helpless infants with immeasurable power and a constant slew of monsters coming after them, that was a recipe for disaster.
My working theory, based on these clues, is that worship causes them to develop, perhaps even to the point of where the are “born” fully grown, kind of like Athena and Hephaestus. This would allow the new gods to be born able to handle the challenges ahead, and perhaps allow the girls to end up bigger over time. Win-win all the way around, I guess. Still, that’s only my theory. This comic continues to surprise me every time.
