Just before this thing went to try and eat her child, it told her that she was the weakest of the group. That kind of a thing’s got to sting, and I think it has made her wonder if she is capable of protecting her child.

Aswangs are WEIRD. You can cuss them to death in some tales, so it really depends. Decapitation is usually a reliable method in most myths though.
