In reply to Rhov. If I recall, they usually only end up with a few neat trinkets, everyone they know dying, and the gods for some reason hate them now. {or at least a few or one of them.}

Ugh, yes many of the old stories go just like that. Gods want something done, find a mortal (or half-mortal), they can do what the gods in their great power can’t or won’t. Probably the mortal perishes. Oh well, reward them by making them a god or putting them in the stars or at least it makes a nice tale to read in high school English class.
